After World War II German hostile policy towards Lusatian Sorbs was discontinued. Eastern German state supported Sorbian language and Sorbian culture. However, despite those efforts, the results remained negative. The reason is to be sought in political and sociological conditions governing the GDR, sociological and economic changes in Lusatia, as well as nationalistic and anti-Sorbian attitudes displayed by some members of German society and party officials.
